Just wondered if anyone has any problems with their clearcoat peeling? I just noticed today on my yellow 07 H3 that the clearcoat is starting to peel around the top of the rear doors and windows. It is out of warranty but I didn't know if their was some sort of paint recall from GM or not. It should not be peeling being only 5 years old and garage kept for most of that time.

 

Did you buy it new or used? Any chance it may have been a hail damaged unit that was repainted or re-cleared before sold?

 

I bought it used but it was never damaged and was garage kept.

 

Many a "new" car has been sold that may have had small repair(s) or other paint flaws re-done by the dealer and not disclosed to the original buyer. Re-clearing the whole vehicle is a...'method' of hiding a panel replacement or partial respray and tends to peel in the areas you describe due to lack of scuffing.

Factory finishes usually don't have issues anymore with clear peel like they did back in the 80's and early 90's which is why I questioned the history. Not saying it can't happen, but it is pretty uncommon. I'll be interested to see if any other owners here have had issues.

 

my 06 developed clear coat peeling only on one side mainly on the rear fender flat top then on both front and back fender guards
