Default Bonehead move on not looking at my H3 closely enough...

Took me almost 2 weeks to notice one important problem with my new-to-me H3. The spare tire is a brand new stock Wrangler RT/S. Yup, a 265/75/16 tire on an H3 Adventure with 4 285/75/16 tires.

That Sucks! Funny thing is it happened to me too. Well almost. I noticed mine before I actually bought it. I had just bought new tires for the truck I was trading in. So I told them the only way i would do the deal is if I could keep my new tires off my truck and they would put them on the Hummer. Since they were the same size they had no problem doing it. So now someone has my old GMC Sierra with 4 285/75/16 and one 265/75/16.

My wife's H3 has 4 305's and a BF Goodrich 285 spare.

I don't know what to do...

Maybe I'll hang myself.

<captain obvious>What you need to do is buy a 305 for the spare</captain obvious>.

I'm hoping the dealership will make it right, but if not I will be buying a 285. When I tried to contact the service department yesterday they were closed, and of course closed on Sunday. Yay UT. I sent an e-mail to the sales guy and the service manager. Also need to get the exterior window trim fixed, a clip holding one side in place is broken. I guess I will find out if all the good things I've heard about this dealer standing behind what they sell and great customer service are true or not.

Now I just put my 285's on and have a 265 spare, I guess as long as it gets me to Belle Tire I'm ok (since have the tire warranty now).

If it came down to it I'd rather be flat-towed than drive an H3 with a mis-sized tire. You can probably get away with going a short distance if you turn the traction control off with the open diffs, but I don't know how the TC or anti-lock brakes might handle one tire turning faster than the other 3.

NOPE, don't drive on mis-matched size tires! You will F* something up.
265 & 285 Don't do it have put the spare on then have it flat towed.
285 & 305s no big deal both about 33" tall.

Default its sumyhin to think about

if you drive in a circle all day your tires are rotating at different speeds. the open diff handles it.
i wonder why its different to drive straight with slightly off size tyres
