Best H3 performance upgrades
 

Hi Everyone.


New to the forums, but have been perusing for about a week.
Which performance upgrades has everyone completed on a budget <$1k?
We just purchased a nice 2006 gold H3 stock. It rides great, sounds great, just a little slow and the stock radio needs to be replaced since the dials have worn off.


We are considering:
$549 Pioneer 6inch touchscreen to connect a backup camera
$399 K&N cold air intake (chrome) or $300 version in rough black
$150 Throttle Body Spacer (hear mixed reviews, but suspect not needed with the K&N intake)
possibly clean the TB while removing stock air box
some bright LEDs either on the front ram bar, or above the windshield (which is better?)
possibly replace spark plugs/wires

Most h3 use the air dock cai. I prefer the stock air box as it will keep most water out and your only gain with a cia is mostly higher rpm's and MPH. They say the spacers for the throttle body are a wast of money. Definitely clean the TB take it off and clean it.
If your going to go offroad get the undercarriage protection. And remove the old step bars and replace them with the gm rocker guards Maybe a winch.
This would be the best bang for your buck a re tune from PCM of NC.

1. Air Doc
2. Better air filter
3. Ported throttle body
4. Cat back exhaust
5. E-Fan
6. PCM tune (save this for last)

I haven't done the e-fan yet. Maybe won't since I'm towing a camper these days.

Good luck on it. I love my H3. Just got some new tires, not a performance upgrade but better on and off road.

Airdoc intake - K&N is overrated and over priced
Throttle body spacer is a waste of money
Clean the throttle body and MAF sensor
If you want to replace spark plugs, use only iridium plugs.

That throttle body spacer is basically a $150 paper weight

You got dat right!

Or a wallet lightener. :D

X2 on all that Bunger said add an AFE ProDry filter.
NO oily K&N krap to foul out the MAF sensor. Wash and dry only!

Thanks everyone for the input. Going to research the AirDoc on eBay now for the inline 5 cylinder engine.

Looks like there is a website to order them for $155 + $15 shipping.


Will definitely do a tune up afterwards since we don't know how old the spark plugs and wires are, and will add the recommended plugs.

I have found the year of the H3 seems to matter. I have a 2007 Adventure package and I can not use the cheaper tuners available for 08-10' models. I suggest the AirDoc if going with a new CAI, as it does help big time compared to the resonator box!

These new units that advance the throttle on today's fly by wire accelerators will not fit my 07' either. A friend has this Pedal Commander unit installed on his and it is night & day compared to mine. No delay at all when you step on gas, but not available for the 07'. I have about a 1/2- 3/4 second delay compared to his.

I'm currently working on some changes using a HP Tuner and notice a big change already as I'm slowly changing things. This would be the PCM of NC mentioned above. ( I'm not crazy about a mail in tune, I rather get exactly what I'm looking for, not a standard type tune, so I'm doing my own. We all want different changes) but I would suggest the PCM of NC tune for others who are not as picky on that. It will make a difference !
