Default Battery cable size

Anybody know the wire gauge size of our OEM battery cables? I'm thinking 4 gauge, but I'm not sure.

Thanks drtom, but I'm not looking to buy cable. I want to get some of the hi quality Stinger cable connectors recommended by doc olds, and I need to know the cable gauge. They accept different sizes, and I want to narrow down my choices.

Default oh,my opinion,,

the factory crimp is as good as u can get...the conn at the batt post is questioned by some.i have no problem with it.
when i did on others,i kept the great factory crimp, i cut the metal and kept enuf to drill a 5/16 hole and bolted it to a good, not as pretty, brass conn from a z. end of trouble for good.
in my opinion,if wire is cut it should be soldered so it is solid, then it can be squezzed with a bolt, otherwise it always gets corroded eventually as the strands are exposed. the factory really crimps solid.

ive had a lot of wire problems and i often solder, crimp, then resolder to fill the voids around the wire. the more overkill the better.

i would never strip stranded wire and clamp it in any way without solder, just my 60 yrs of experience fighting wires!!

oh, the brass at auto z look just like reg batt conn, but brass lasts

later. i looked at stinger site, they sell to the "thump-thump"crowd and as i suspected they say this in their ad

"If you know anything about installing you know looks matter and when it comes to stinger they get all the looks!" they sell looks

i like the ugly brass and solder!!

when u squeeze the stranded wire with a screw like stinger, there is space left around the wire.its not surrounded with a metal band like a good crimp. the small strands can in time migrate and loosen. they are exposed to corrosion.

they do sell crimp rings with a 5/16 hole. when i use parts like that i crimp, then solder, then bolt . its solid.

Approximate diameter size to gauge:

3/8" = 4 AWG

7/16"= 2 AWG

9/16"= 1/0 AWG

5/8" = 2/0 AWG

So take a tape measure and check, its too cold out for me to go look.
