3rd High Mount Brake light
Hi guys,
I am having the what seems to be common issue of half of the brake light not lighting up. I have read all of the DIY posts on how to replace with your own LED strips to save money, but I just want to buy a new one and install.
My question is, has anyone ordered one of these recently? I am trying to order part # 15816671.
I ordered from GM Parts Outlet and they cancelled the order saying it is discontinued. I contacted some other sites with the same luck.
Anyone know who might have it in stock or was it replaced by a different part number? My H3 is a 2007 but I am assuming this part would fit all model years.
Thanks in advance.
Tim

Check your brake light switches on the pedal first. The 3rd brake light goes direct from the switch, the regular brake lights pass through the BCM. Mine was dim and sometimes did not work. A $35.00 brake light switch fixed the problem. Good Luck.

After you check out the actual brake switch like RKSmith suggests.

Thanks guys. I got this back from GM Parts Depot in Canada:
"Unfortunately the part that you are looking for (15816671) has been discontinued by General Motors. I have verified that there is no remaining inventory at any of the GM parts distribution centre’s. As well I have verified that there is no remaining inventory at any Canadian dealers.
I apologize for your inconvenience.

How can GM discontinue a part for a vehicle that isn't even that old when the part is needed to pass inspections? Especially a part that GM seems to know had issues with corrosion.
It's looking more and more like I am going to have to do a little DIY.

Hey all. I looked online for one as well. I found one used on eBay and the guy wanted 60 bucks Plus shipping. I went to Canadian tire and bought a universal break light near same size and made a mount and screwed it inside the space the original went and popped the panel back on the door after hooking up wires with crush connectors.
Workouts fine Sandford under 20 bucks I have a light better aboriginal. And looks like it was meant to be original.
