Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
This is my first post. If I'm not in the right place or have done something wrong, please correct me.
My coolant temp sensor in my 2009 H3 w/90K miles is intermittently failing. Connector is clean. I decided to replace the sensor. I used the Kent Moore J-45861 ECT Sensor Socket to remove the sensor. It threaded out w/out issue – BUT – it will not come out. I have not used any more force than what my fingers are capable of. It’s completely unthreaded and it moves laterally as the threads are clear. But again, no matter how much I freely turn it counter-clockwise, and pull between my left hand thumb and forefinger, it will not come out. I didn’t attempt any other force.
My hope is that someone else has encountered the same. I speculated the black rubber seal/gasket may have come loose and was causing the binding between male and female threads. The sensor should easily clear any such obstacle. At least that was my thinking. When screwed back in it sealed w/out incident.
I’m hoping someone with experience is going to tell me I simply need to use more force; but what’s holding it captive? I’m 68 and have been around cars all my life. I was both a mechanic and service manager. I’m not the best of anything, and I admit I’m miffed over what should be a simple R&R. Thanks to all. 2009 Hummer H3 coolant temp sensor loose but won't come out
I promise you I've rotated it counter-clockwise many more times than there are threads. It seems to defy logic in that though the threads are free, it won't come out. I've not used any more force than all I can muster between my left thumb and forefinger. Once I gave up and attempted to thread it back into position, it threaded in and tightened w/out incident. Thanks for the offer to help. It's much appreciated.
Thanks for the confidence booster, HUMMERZ! I'll tackle it as soon as time permits. Gauge is working and code is cleared, but I know the issue will return. Connector is clean. This was a one-owner (woman) who never went off-road. Again, I appreciate all the help and encouragement here!!
I purchased it for $12K. The asking price was $14K. It had 89,000 miles or thereabout. It had been well maintained for many years; but in the past 1-2 it was somewhat neglected. I almost purchased an H2 and would have preferred an Alpha. But honestly, for me, the 3.7 is enough. Especially now when gas prices are through the roof. I'm guessing you do some sky diving? Best to you, sky.dive !
Even with a neglected coolant system, the sensor will still come out! Make sure to flush the coolant system and refill with fresh Dexcool!
does the bad coolant fluid type trigger this( AC off and the temp gauge not working ), 15 years im driving with no issue once i use it and after driving for 1000 mile it appeared

You dug up a THREE YEAR OLD Thread to tack on a question that is actually unrelated to the topic. Avoid digging up Old Threads, just post a New Thread with your specific question. READ: Old Threads/'Necro-Bumping'
The simple answer is NO. A stuck Thermostat and/or dead Temp Sensor will.
