2006 Hummer H3 stuck in 4wd lo
 

Good afternoon everyone!
ive recently done some work on my 2006 Hummer H3
I was having issue with the wheels feeling like they were locking up while turning at low speeds or doing a U-turn.
did some research and came upon the fork inside the transfer case that’s made of nylon.
so I went ahead and purchased the part and did the work myself.
now I’m no transmission/transfer case expert at all.
so I did some more research and decided I’d take on the job.
well last night I finished it and put it all back together.
the original problem I had was gone, SWEET!
BUT NOW I’m getting like it’s STUCK in 4wd Lo
its acts just like if it was, meaning the long transmission shift from 1st to 2nd. RPMs climb to about 5-6k before shifting and it jerks hard!
it won’t shift into 4th fear at all. Doing 45 in 3rd gear at like 5k rpm.
anyone who has experience with transfer cases or this issue, may I have some help?
i think I times the planetary gear correctly but I could be mistaken!

make sure the transfer case selector motor is engaging the fork properly while you have it out also cycle through the 4x4 modes to make sure it is behaving as intended make sure to chock the wheels because if it goes in tow mode (transfer case neutral) truck can roll on you.

When rebuilt, did you set the selector shaft to the same "mode" (example: 4HI LOCKED) as the T case shift motor?

Did you put the speed sensor back in correctly and all the way??

I’m going to be honest and say no.
never thought of it.
today I went back in and took the encoder motor off to see what position it was in. And also looked at the shaft.
the shaft was in the 4lo position and the motor in 4hi. So I attempted to manually turn the shaft and match it to the motor.
seemed to work but when I went for a test drive it’s still stuck in 4wd lo.
im going to say I didn’t correctly reassemble the transfer case and somehow left it stuck in 4lo.

How can you tell what mode the selector shaft is in? Asking since my encoder motor is not working and I am stuck in 4 Low. Thinking if i can determine how to select 4Hi with selector shaft, I can match the encoder to the same and have a functioning truck. Crazy idea?

UPDATE - I used my multimeter and confirmed wires to encoder motor had power. Thinking motor must have seized - rarely used. Next, I pulled the encoder motor apart and used penetrating oil overnight.. Shocked it a few times by touching it to H3 battery. It is now moving again when buttons pressed!
