Default 2006 H3 L52 Engine replacement ?

Hi guys got a high mileage 220k 3.5L. The water pump has failed and truck overheated. I'd rather swap motors instead.
Now I just want to make sure the 2004-06 Colorado and Canyon 3.5 is the same. They are half the price and appear to be similar.
I have read something about flashing the PCM? If the engines are the same why would I need to flash the PCM to the vin of the donor car? Seems a bit odd. Sorry I'm not a GM Guru.

Thanks in advance

The PCM reads the engine vin#, so that should be addressed with a flash or tune to avoid conflicts down the road.

The older 2004-5 Colly/Canyon 3.5Ls use a Fuel Pressure Regulator, the 2006s do not. You should be able to use the intake and intake manifold off your dead H3 motor moved over to the older 3.5s in order to avoid the FPR problem.

No. Engine runs. All the coolant drained out from it in the parking lot. It was misfiring before it dropped the coolant

Misfires can be easy to fix, 90% of the time it is a bad coil on plug pack.

Did you see it overheat? Like to what temp? Unless the dash temp gauge (which is not accurate and more like and idiot light with a needle) was pegged all the way to the red for at least some time, put a new water pump on and see what's up. Water pumps are cheap and easy.

Are you 100% sure the water pump was the leak? I ask because the radiators on H3s are a known failure point.

Good luck.

Yeah I agree with doc. I'd track every other thing first.
