My wife and I are looking at a H3 for her to use as a daily driver......our prospects now are 06,07,or 08 H3

all have around 40-50k

My main question is is the 3.5l in the 06 a deal breaker? I've seen some have head problems....opinions

I like the 06 because it is a 5 speed manual but don't want engine problems either

What other issues should I look for between these models

Thanks
Brandon

The extra HP of the 3.7 would be a nice benefit over the 3.5. Having driven both, the difference is noticable. I believe the CPU is re-mapped for the '08 as well. Whatever you decide, it would be worthwhile to check and see if the rig you are looking at has already had the head replaced.

Its one of those hit or miss things i believe. You never know if the something is gonna fail or not.

8lr8n........what did the remapping of the do? is the 08 a better option because of this?

0sixH3.......if its hit or miss I think I'll stay away from that model.....would a H3 with 44k be free from worry......is it one of those deals that happens to this engine early on if it was going to happen or is it a lingering problem

Thanks
Brandon

If you can help it avoid 2006 at all cost. I have owned three h3s all 2006. (You would think I would learn my lesson) Ive needed to have the head replaced on the last two. Both of them have had the plastic shifter fork replaced in the transfercase. Ive had problems with the smaller 14mm tierods on all of them. AND I just snapped a rear main leaf spring. While these problems have happened on RARE occasions with other years the majority of the time it has been on the 2006 year. If you can budget it go with a 2009 as they seem to have the bugs worked out.

Of course going newer is always better. The H3's have ongoing front end bushing issues, not a huge deal, but an annoying one. They just tend to eat bushings, moreso if the truck has been wheeled.
As for the '06 question--it has been answered, stay away if you want a good HUMMER experience. Not saying an '06 would be the worst thing in the world, but the lack of engine power is very discouraging, you could talk your self into living with it, but if you do any freeway driving, the lack of power really sucks. That is an anemic engine that should have never made production.
Good luck in your quest!

I'd go with the 07+ for the 3.7L motor. The 3.5L is tolerable but there's a reason it only lasted one year in the truck. This isn't a light vehicle and the more ponies you can get to tug it along the better.

I have an '06 with 45,000km. No head issues yet, lets keep the fingers crossed! I find the power in the I5 tolerable. Honestly I find that the power is sufficient for passing on highway. PCM tune, megaflow. Also help in that department. If I could go back I would have got the 5 speed!

get one with the 5.3L V8. the fuel mileage isn't that big of a deal. I own two one with the V8 and one with the 3.5L. Just get the V8. you will wish you did in the long run
