Thought those of you who were debating flat black paint might find this interesting. It mentions that the Hummer HX at the Detroit Auto Show was matte.

My brother had a Pantera that had a matte black hood. Not sure I would like a car that was totally matte/flat black. Guess it would hide the brush rash a little better.

Yeah 3hummers I remember back in the '70s a lot of the muscle cars had flat black hoods. Not sure I care for it either but would have to see it in-person to know for sure. Might look cool on the HX since that's such a tough looking little brute.

I guess you wouldn't have to wax it, that's a plus. Maybe you oil it like you do parkerizing on guns and knives.

I can tell you from exp that unless you have a good clear coat (which would probaby defeat the purpose of having flat) it will scratch easier than the normal paint job.

I was watching some car show on cable and they painted a car with flat black, but the cool thing was they then used a matt or semi-gloss clear coat on it. I always thought you could not clear coat flat paint, till now that is. It was not a100% flat, but very close to it. Very cool look in my opinion. Just thought I would share the info on the matt clear coat.

I posted in the other thread what you can use...

It is popular... so much so that DuPont came out with a satin/flat that is cleared...
