Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

What do you think of H2s with new engines in them?

While a very well maintained 6.2 can reach 300,000 miles, the vast majority develop camshaft bearing issues right around 200,000.... But the fun factor of the 6.2 is well worth the shorter lifespan. And that L92 with variable valve timing usually gets better fuel mileage. The 6-speed transmission is an avid bonus in those.... Until it comes time for rebuilding, I prefer the older four-speed at half the cost and easier to rebuild yourself.

So many pluses and minuses on each. Just buy whatever you decide works best for you :-)

Thanks Robert,

My Moto is.." Just Throw Money At It" Buy a New Tranny rather than a rebuilt or having yours rebuilt. Motor Failure???? Just Buy a New Factory Fresh motor and your good to go. Your wallet will be lighter...but the Agg Factor goes way down dealing with that failed rebuild or Used motor or Tranny.

id actually argue that the 6 speed is easier to rebuild. Yet it would also argue that it is a garbage transmission until it?s been built and tuned correctly.

personally a new engine isn?t a dealbreaker but it definitely does NOT increase value like every marketplace seller thinks it does.

My 2009 6L80 has been Flawless in shifting and has been well maintained. It has been off roaded in low Hi nad has pulled a few trailers as well as jerked a few people from snow and mud. The diff has been locked and all four wheels have been worked together and climbed rocks and Dirt hills. It now has about 81,000 on the clock. I have also used the paddle shift levers which I find use full when towing or just working out the solenoids in the tranny. It's due for a Flush and Filter and upper seal @100K.

If it gets to the point of failure and needs a rebuild I'll simply buy a new one and sell the unit to someone who wants to rebuild it.. As far as the motor goes... Same thing...Out with the old and in with the new.

Yeah..That could have been an option. But that would have to be a Pretty Big and HD design for all that weight. Would be good for Non Off road use. Cruise-en around and profile-en.
