Default Water leaking from roof console.

so after torrential rainfall this weekend it appears i have a leak ....it was dripping out of my homelink buttons and got all in my radio
is it safe to say that more likely it is the roof lights where the water is entering and then just running out of the overhead console

planning on getting new lights across the front and replace and reseal....the 3 center lights what is everyone using to seal those?...silicone or a weatherstrip type material along with the gasket?
i know the outside lights get the grommet out and silicone

thank you!!!

some one just posted a simlar issue. if you use silicone to seal the center lights it will be a hell of a time to get back in to replace bulbs. they do sell gasket kits on amazon or you can make your own out of 1/4" or 5/16" (bit tighter) flat neoprene foam

Yep definitely marker lights. On the corners: Seal the rubber gaskets where the wire goes through the body with silicone. For the middle ones: buy new gaskets, I made my own with some weather stripping foam from Home Depot. Would not recommend siliconing those. I’ve been down that road and it isn’t pretty.

And whatever you do, do NOT use silicone. Black urethane from Home Depot.

I just did that fix today.

Make sure to clean up the rubber grommets so they look like new first. They will have weird baked on dirt that eventually peels off. Work them with a wet cloth.

And a cheapo Amazon gasket kit, which requires doubling up the gaskets as they are way too thin. So of course I could not do the rear.

The corner marker seals do nothing to prevent leakage. They are just rub strips. You don't need those in perfect shape.

The rear markers drain into the hatch which then drains out. So those are not critical either.

No, polyurethane. But you could use butyl also if you have some on hand already. Butyl even better as it stays softer with more flex.

Whatever you do, don't use water or acetic-based silicone sealer. Stuff just does not adhere well to most rubber.
