Default tow rating

Hello. Thinking about getting an H2 and wondering if anybody can help me here. The 2003 has a tow rating of 7000lbs then from 2004 - 2007 the tow rating dropped to 6700 lbs any ideas? I tow a tt which is max 6000lbs but I like a little headroom. Thanks. Gary

dude, some of us are old and can't read the tiny font. as for towing, it is what it is, and the H2 isn't the best tow vehicle made. it's a brick, towing a brick. i tow a 26' camper, and it does ok with that, running around 5500 lbs with all our crap in it. but mileage sucks and i keep one eye on the road and one on the temp in the summertime. it works for me, but if headroom is what you're looking for, this ain't it.

The Boat /Trailer is around 7,500 lbs, pulls just fine with (Firestone spring air bags) behind our 2004 H2......

Sometimes I have to look back to see if its still there........

MAYBE BECAUSE THEY REALIZED THEIR MISTAKE SINCE REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU'VE HEARD, THE H2 IS NOT THE BEST TOW VEHICLE IN THE WORLD. IF YOU WANNA TOW, GET A DIESEL EXPEDITION - 14000 LB TOW CAPACITY.

sorry 'bout the font . . . . . .

You could have just posted it as that. It's very awkward to read and it's irritating. It is easier just posting on the default font rather than changing the size... what makes it worse that instead of posting with a normal font after being asked, you made it large.

There are many reasons as to why you would see a 300lb drop, probably to do with safe ratings, probably a lot of reports of overheating or brake heating... so they dropped it. It should still be able to pull the same as there aren’t really any changes for those years. If you get a 2008, it has a new engine and some new odds and ends, you can tow much more. Other people on this thread posted thier capacities using thier H2's, this should give you a good indication of what your actual capacity is.

Just like the irritated poster said, it's a Hummer thing, they aren't meant to tow very heavy stuff. You can still tow your weight but it's not going to be the hauling machine that you would expect. A proper trailer with proper weight distribution and trailer assisted brakes should be more than towable behind your H2.

Hummer will tell you the same thing.

ockie, thanks for the info

shortbus, sorry I didn't mean to be out of line. I drove an 03 and fell in love with the truck and want nothing more then to get one.....maybe I'll need to get an 08 with the larger tow rating.

thanks to all for the input.
