Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Default Tech2 Scanner

Hey guys,
I'm looking at Tech2 scanners on E-bay but not exactly sure what I need as I'm new the the Hummer world. I see there are some listing that say "Only GM", some say "Candi module" (which I believe I need), and then there's some that don't say much but are 4x the price of others.

I have a short window to get one before I make the drive home to Cabo IN the vehicle I need it for. Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding what I should be looking for.

Cheers!!

OR is there a different scan tool you suggest?

I do own an AutoEnginuity scan tool for my Super Duty and they do offer a GM add-on.

https://www.autoenginuity.com/produc...ily-expansion/

It runs $230 for the add-on which isn't much less than some of the cheaper options that I've seen on Ebay.

Anyway, thanks again.

I have an expensive Xtools D9 Pro, it's a great scanner but the King for the H2 is still the Tech 2. And yes, you need the CANDI module.

Thanks H2-SUT, I guess it never hurts to have additional scanners laying around...

Is the CANDI module all I'll need (for the H2) or should I be looking for more?

I have seen tons of Tech 2's online. There are some that are not usa mfg-ed . I have a GM Tech 2 with all the stuff less the GM subscription. I'm kind of GM orientated.
The other ones I have seen are not GM. Now there are tons of Scanners out there and most can do more then the Tech 2. Then, enter the price point. some are as high as $5K and more. It's up to you. The above advice is good.

That is an absolute bargain, Almost makes me want to order one as a spare. The VCI cards in them are a little flaky in the Chinese ones so it wouldn't hurt to have a spare. BTW if you order one make sure you get the GM PCMCIA card too!

Shipping alone on the last link I sent was a little over $160 and wouldn't have arrived in time for my trip. I decided to go with this one on Ebay, total was $427 out the door and should be in my grubby hands by the 11th. Now I need to find a local shop to install the new gears (4.56 or 4.88 not decided yet) before then.

Make sure you fire up your new Tech 2 as soon as you get it. I sure you know Ebay has a 30 day warranty to return a defective item so don't wait until you get back to test it.

Also, the pre 08's had 4.11 gears, they switched to 3.42(U42) or 3.73(GT4) which I think was done because of the 6L80 and fuel economy. I wish GM had left the 4.11's or I had the optional 3.73's.With that said unless your really looking for monster off-road performance I don't think I would go past 4.56!

Personally for me (strictly street) the 3.73 would give you best bang for the buck for both around town, towing and expressway. I sure there are other's here that would disagree and hope they will chime in!
