strange noise in lift gate

i have a 2005 h2. i hear what sounds like a relay or solanoid clicking in the rear lift gate. it starts when i put it drive and the doors lock. it stops when i go to park. the lift gate does lock as it should. the click is one once per second in rhythm. what could it be?

How did you verify the lift gate locks while the lock actuator motor is cycling?

i had it in drive and it was clicking. then i applied the parking brake while leaving it in drive, exited the truck and went to the rear to try to open the lift gate. it was locked and i could hear the clicking. it seems to be coming from within the passenger side of the gate. i then got in and put it in park and the noise stopped.

Doors automatically lock in -D- Drive, and unlock in -P- Park. There's a problem with the 15926027. Thoroughly inspect.

thanks for the reply. should i go ahead and replace the part or could it be repairable once i get in there?

Unlikely it needs replaced. Post pictures.

hummerz, thanks for the replies. as it turns out, the noise is not in the tail gate. it is coming from the air compressor area. a previous owner has swapped the air bags out for coil springs. i dont know why. the clicking noise sounds like a relay or something. the compressor runs when i turn it on to use the inflator inside the back of the truck. now i think i would like to restore the air bag suspension back to working condition. but i dont know where to start.

Odd - so the air springs are gone but you are still able to use the accessory inflator?

That would be a very uncommon thing as the missing air springs generally necessitates disabling the compressor so that there is not a constant service air suspension error. Doing that also disables the ability to use the accessory inflator.

In any case restoring it "might" not be too tough. You would obviously need the air springs. Likely the plastic centering cups that are bolted to the axle perches for the air springs. Then it is a matter of digging a bit to see exactly what else might be missing like the air lines to the springs.

There are a number of threads on here that go into the air suspension system in depth. Then poke about on https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/epc/hummer/ and locate the diagrams and find the part numbers you might need to acquire.
