Default Silver Dome Light Removal

Hey Guys,

I just bought a spare tire cover. Since the silver dome light, that lights the license plate on the spare tire, costs $35 I thought that I would remove the one that is already on the spare tire and put it on the cover.

Does anyone have any tips on how it comes off? Being illuminated it is wired so that presents an issue.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have. Through experience I have found that after working for a day on a project, just asking a question can cut that time in half or better.

On my truck the light the mounted to the spare tire carrier not the tire cover. All I had to do was take off the old cover, put the new one on and was good to go. I did not need to do anything with the light

If you are referring to the chrome dome with HUMMER on it, that is held on using 3 or 4 push tabs. All you have to do is pinch the tabs to remove the dome, it then should slide into your new tire cover the same way (assuming your you cover has the slots for the dome)

Good luck!!!

Hey Mgurgone,

Thanks for your reply. I am referring to the chrome dome with HUMMER on it. I didn't want to pull when I shouldn't and break it. Now I know, thanks to you.

OK
I got the black plastic part that has the license plate mount.
AND I got the chrome "HUMMER" logo half moon piece.
BUT, my daughter decided that for Father's Day she would clean up my garage and mixed the three clips that secure the dome to the plastic bracket in with a thousand other assorted fasteners? Any idea of the part # for those clips?

Default Clip for spare tire carrier........

In attached diagram to this post, it looks like you are looking for the clip as pictured in part #16.

If true, then your part number is 11588650.

Default Thank you

Yup
I think that's it.

Now I just have to either source the part from local GM dealer OR go through all my assorted fasteners and find the three that I originally had?
