seal leak on transfer case
Hi everyone
I have a beautiful '06 H2. The problem I'm having is that I have a leak in the transfer case @ the seal from the transfer case to drive shaft to back tires. The drive shaft also wiggles @ the seal and the oil leaks even more. When I eccelerate a little harder it sounds like it slipping on the gears. Is it grenaded or is there a know bearing problem that needs to be looked at. I know that the previous owner had problems with the seal and had it replaced a couple of times under warranty. It is no longer under warranty. Has anyone else had the same problem and what was it. Any info would greatly appreciated.

if you mean the large ball in the center of the rear axle, yes, mine started today apparently. the only driving out of the ordinary i have been doing is snow (sliding and having fun) and i know that the traction control has been coming on alot, so i think extended use of the traction control caused mine to start leaking. tomorrow after school, im going to take it to a friends garage, where i will try and tighten it up, and see if that stops the leak. you should be able to take it to any shop and they will be able to tell you within 10-15 minutes whats really wrong with it. hope this helps,
also, i know this is late, but it just happened to me today, so i got on here and checked.

no clue, i know that mine, in 05, came with 3yrs or 40k miles or something really small. so, mines way out of warranty.
if you want to do it correctly, go to a auto part store, ask them for a bottle of the oil you need in the trasfer case, i believe its 90w, then at the back of the case, there is a slot for a socket wrench. find the appropriate fitting one, then unscrew the small plug. fill it back up with oil, and tighten it back up really well. if you wish, you can cover the threads on the plug with teflon tape, then screw it back in. that will seal it really good

The '06 has 4 year 50k mile warrenty. So if yours is past that with no extended warrenty then your out of luck on that path.
If the transfer case is shot, then a replacement from a salvage yard is likely your most cost effective option. I am surprised the bearings would be beat out of it unless it has some kind of a flaw in the casing where the race of the bearing going into. Good luck.
