Rusted gas inlet on2008 h2

The exact piece I need is the gas filler neck and the part is discontinued. I found one on eBay out of a 2006 h2 I was wondering if it is compatible with the 2008 or did they change it on the 2008?

All I need is number 13 in this diagram

Bigger question is, why is it rusted? Could only be on the outside, not inside, unless you are running crappy no-name watered down fuel.

So why not just re-plate it in zinc on the outside, or paint or powder it?

It is only has a little surface rust from we’re the gas cap gasket seals to we’re the gas cap threads go. It happened cause my h2 sat outside for three years and the old gas cap gasket got old and hardened so it didn’t seal all the way so it got a little surface rust just to the threads in the gas inlet. And I have sanded the rust off and painted it but do still want to replace it if I can

just sand the lip back smooth to good metal and rub a bit of grease on the cap seal. if its not too pitted steel wool can clean it up
