Rear License Plate Relocate
#11
I didnt install another holder at all...just attach the plate to the tire carrier on the right or left side....unless you need a pretty piece of abs and a tag light
You will need small metal drill bit, some silicone or epdm caulk (for the hole to slow rust) and a few decent metal bolt/screws.
And if you are going biggervtires check to see if they rub on tight radius turns

build it!
I couldn't believe the prices on the carriers when we bought my '03 used. The wife said that the tire had to get moved from the verticle in cab holder, as it blocked the view out the back. I unmounted it and layed it down.
I downloaded and printed pics of several different units and came up with my own design.
People had different ideas about carry height......so I made it changable. I took 2 peices of sq. tubing (like a hitch) and used a bolt to hold it in place. The wheel mounting plate i welded on an offset so that the carry position could be changed. For street carry (low mount) offset at top so tire just shows in rear window (blocks hitch) tow (mid carry) offset to left or right tire does block rear view somewhat. Off road (High carry) max clearence of bottom of tire, really blocks rear view. And I added a back-up camera to hub center also, and mounted a license plate carrier w/light outboard of left tow loop. I think price of materials came to about $100 inclusive.
This is lo mount, (after an ice storm in NH couple of years ago)
