Good to find this forum after owning a H2 for almost 7 years. I have a similar situation.


Rear Hatch Handle broke and the Door wont open. I looked into few posts which say I have to buy the whole assembly etc. i would appreciate anybody guiding me with the right info or redirecting me to the right link on the web on how to fix this.

My H2 tailgate handle just snapped in half and broke off. I bought a new handle off eBay but the plastic door fixture that the handle needs to go onto has a pin that needs to go through a hole in the end of the handle. Anyone repaired this? Don't tell me I have to buy the whole unit , ie license plate holder etc complete with handle....!

 

Ok so I replaced the tailgate doorhandle, (no need to buy a complete fitting that says "HUMMER" and has space for the plate, behind the external spare wheel frame).
1. Remove the interior pull-handle.
2. Literally pull off the plastic around the tailgate - a trim removal tool helps get behind it.
3. Undo the six 10mm bolts holding the plastic plate holder to the door and pop it off.
4. You will see a pin holding the remains of the old handle ( or not, but the pin will be there!. Remove it - this is tough, but your new handle comes with a pin and snap-on washer.)
5 Replace everything. Done
Three hours.
