Pulling more weight

Is there a way to "upgrade" my "08" H2 to be able to drag around about 10,000 lbs or so?
I know those with a repowered H2 could probably do it too. Except for the hitch probably not make it too far. Thanks for the info.

Provided you have good trailer brakes and your weight is balanced correctly, I wouldn’t hesitate to pull 10k. That being said I won’t tell you to do it. But I would do it. Be sure your hitch with the ball is rated for 10k tho. That’s about what 2” hitches top out at.
If it sags too much in the rear invest in some air bags.

Check your hitch. Many are too rusty and bolted to rotten frames on 21 year old vehicles (or 16-year old in your case.), especially ones from the salt belt.

What is your H2 factory-rated at for pulling? That tells u what u need to know.

Next, you planning on prairie driving or mountain pass hauling? Big difference.

Last, you will need HD cooling, aka trailer tow package, in case yours does not have it from the factory.

One thing to consider on these is the suspension. That has as much on what it will haul and tow, probably more, than the power of the engine. A load leveling hitch will help in that area and is a better solution than airbags on the rear of the tow rig.

It's an "08".there's no rust on the hitch. I've been pondering on putting a different size hitch on it. Like one of those 3" ones. I just don't trust the one that's on there now. It doesn't seem like it'd pull even 6000#.

I have an ‘08 SUT and I wouldn’t ever entertain the thought of pulling 10k with it. Even with a load leveling hitch. That’s just too much for these.

Depending on the terrain you're towing on,10k is doable with the 6.2! The 6.6 rated:

Trucks That Can Tow 10,000 Pounds

What does this list show? A H2 isn’t rated at 10k lbs towing. I wouldn’t do the 8200 that it’s rated at without a load leveling hitch.

Compare the specs:

2008 HUMMER H2 SUT Specs:

Horsepower 393 hp
Horsepower rpm 5,700
Torque 415 lb-ft.
Torque rpm 4,300

It’s the suspension that limits its towing capacity. I also have a Ford Raptor. Its towing capacity is about half of a regular F150 with the same engine and transmission, because of its suspension. That is the same story with the H2. It isn’t all about the power.
