P2135 Throttle/Pedal Position

A couple of months ago I experienced a sudden drop in acceleration to a max speed of 20mph. Got it home and did a diagnostic that gave the code P2135 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A/B Voltage Correlation. The next day the check engine light had gone off and when we took it out the same thing happened and the light went on again. The third day the truck wouldn't start and it looks like the battery was dead. We left the H2 in the garage for the next couple of months. Finally had AAA come out for a jump and they said the battery needed to be recharged but the alternator was fine. I talked to my stepdad and he said that after letting it sit for the last 4 months maybe that by recharging the battery it would reset the sensors and all would be good. I have recharged the battery and the check engine light is off. Is it possible he's right about the problem or is that just wishful thinking? Just not sure if my first trip should be to the garage.
