I am about to become a new owner and it has been my dream to own an H2 since they first came out. I owned a 2008 H3 Luxury from new and sold it a couple years ago with well over 100K on the odometer and it proved to be a great vehicle. I miss it, but I thought I would upgrade to the big boy...an H2.

My question is the following:
I am about to purchase a 2005 Hummer H2 and I am looking to convert it from having an internal spare tire to external spare tire. Is this possible? Is there a kit that I can buy that is OEM? Is it easy to DIY? Please Help.
Also, are these bad boys reliable and what are some of the problems that 2006 H2's are known for? Thank you, in advance.

You will need an external tire swing arm. These are not too easy to find esp ones in good shape. I have a 2003 and I did what you want to do. I sold the interior tire holder for $200 and found a swing arm is awesome condition for $300. Some on eBay are going for $600 and up.

The H2's are very reliable but expect to spend time and or money on issues like water leaks, broken manifold bolts, and a few other issues we've all encountered. I have my 05 for over 7 years and not one time did it not start or get me stuck. Love my trucks and don't ever see me selling them.

 

Intake manifold or exhaust manifold bolts are prone to breaking?

 

Exhaust. Fast finger. Great truck. Will never get rid of mine.
