My license plate light on my 2006 H2 is burnt out. Cops pulled me over to let me know.
I’m not a Hummer expert, but this looks like a custom job. Any thoughts on the right parts to fix?

 

yes that looks like a universal 12v led strip has been wired in. you can buy it by the roll.

 

Check the connection to the led strip. If connections are good, replace with a new strip. Many on eBay, 4pc white will light it up.30cm LED Strip Light for Car Caravan Boat SWB Van White Blue Red Green Amber 12V

Easy answer:
Most likely the LED strip was put there was because the rear tire carrier that normally houses the license plate + light was removed.

The remaining spot on the tailgate is NOT lighted. Hence the need for an aftermarket hack, as opposed to properly replacing the tailgate license plate holder with a lighted one.
