Default fuel tank

Hi everyone. I have an '06 H2 SUV and it has developed a fuel tank leak where the tank fitting meets the tank. Its not the tube or clamp, but where the actual nozzle meets the tank. Anyone seen this, any thoughts other than a new tank?

Where the nozzle meets the tank? You'll need to be a little more specific. Are you talking about the filler tube that comes down from the gas cap? Or one of the other fittings?

Oh, I think I know what you mean. You're talking about the actual protrusion from the tank that the filler tube hose fits onto? Never seen that leak.

Yes, that is correct, the short tube coming out of the tank that filler tube hose attaches to.

Not sure how that was originally bonded to the plastic tank. Best and safest bet is to get a hold of a different fuel tank I suspect.

are you sure it is not the pump itself as they do commonly rot out then spilling onto that fitting?

Just crawled back under truck. It's definitely seeping around the seam where the inlet is bonded to the tank. Not much luck finding a sealant that will bond to polyethylene plastic. Trying to avoid dropping the tank to have someone plastic weld it.

Going to be cheaper to have it plastic welded. Prices for used ones start in the $500 range and go way up from there

Finding somebody locally that can do it might be the difficult part. You can't use any type of adhesive. I was just reading it has to be heated to 200° c, and the density of the plastic welding rod should be the same as the tank.

So, a visit to a shop I use on occasion, yielded a used tank out of state for $650, now on its way here. Calls to several radiator shops about re-welding the seam was no good. I may experiment on my old tank and see what I can do. Thanks to all for suggestions and info.
