Default comparison H2 > Tahoe

Someone told me that the H2 was just a Tahoe with a different body, is this correct? I currently own a 99 Tahoe but would like to trade for a H2 but I trying to justify the trade. I will only be driving as an occassional driver due to having a company car. But it will be the only vehicle that I will own other than my Harley.
I read somewhere that H2 gets 10 mpg then I read 18 mpg which is closest to being correct.
Thanks for the input

10 mpg is closer. The H2 and Tahoe shares some parts, Steering wheel and instrument panel are similar.

I'm not an expert but the H2's 8,600 lb gross vehicle weight and 69.4" track width compared to the Tahoe's 6,800 lb GVW and 65" track width suggest to me more than a body change.

As for gas mileage depending on the driver you should get ~ 13mpg. At least I do.

My 2cents : if your not planning to go off road and fuel is a concern there are a lot of nice little SUV's out there that can get you around just fine.

Peaple are sadly mistaken with the H2 is a Tahoe MYTH....

Here are the details....

http://www.lynchhummer.com/h2pages/h2chassis.html

The long is short is this.... The H2 uses some 2500 Truck parts--mainly front drive, suspension and steering parts.

The H2 Wheel base is longer and wider.
The H2 frame is its own animal....It is FULLY boxed (Tahoe is not) and has more cross members etc etc...

The Tahoe is a 6 lug truck, H2 is 8 lug.

I can go on and on but they are not the same truck at all.

I'm cruising around 12mpg in my H2 after airing the tires up to 39 per wheel. I was down between 10 and 11 before airing the tires up. My daily driving is all stop and go traffic though.

Like humminNboatin said, there is pretty much no similarities between the Tahoe/HUMMER. I love when people use that argument
"well all your hummer is, is an overpriced Tahoe!". Wrooooong. Dumbass. The same "basic" frame is used. Our HUMMER frames are fully boxed which is awesome for not only a truck, but an offroading truck where the structural rigidity is required.

These trucks are totally different animals.

Also: Most H2 owners I know get 8-13mpg. The HUMMER's that get 18+mpg are H3's.

I just returned from a 4,500 mile, three week vacation and my average mpg for the entire trip was 14.8. That includes going over the Rockies twice. A previous trip from Vegas to Salt Lake City and back resulted in 15.0 mpg. I get 13.2 to 13.8 driving around Vegas.

A 2008-2009 H2 will get about 2 mpg better mileage from what I gather due to the bigger and improved engine/tranny.

Only someone who has never owned a H2 would say it is the same as a Tahoe.

The brakes on an H2 are soft too if that's what you meant by brakes suck. It's kind of hard to get any objective downsides of the vehicle on a forum dedicated to that vehicle. Parts are kind of expensive and finding a service manual like you can find for pretty much any vehicle at your local pep boys is impossible, so if you want to do your own work your options are somewhat limited. It requires the expensive coolant, oil and the all time 4wd requires more service than you would need on a 2wd tahoe. I'm a relatively new H2 owner so thats all I can come up with off the top of my head but knowing all that didn't stop me from buying so...

The H2 handles like crap and it's no fun to maneuver in tight spots. Visibility isn't that great either. Personally, I think the brakes are pretty damn good considering what it's stopping. I accept it for what it is and enjoy the hell out of it. You should take one for a good long ride before you decide.
