Clicking noise??

Clicking noise??
Greetings,
I just recently made my first purchase on a slightly used Hummer H2. Anyway, I love the thing but I am having a clicking noise of sorts that seems to be coming from the front end. I got underneath the truck today to see if anything was loose, torn, out of alignment, etc... Everything seems to be OK, but I still get a clicking noise. Not to mention, I can feel it in my steering wheel. The brakes look fine and I don't think the rotors are warped or anything. I'm thinking possibly wheel bearings?? What do you guys think?? Also, I inquired about new wheel bearing with the local parts store and they had the bearing available. But they also had a front hub assembly?? Any idea what this might include or be. Should I replace the hub assembly when I replace the bearings?? Again, what would you guys think could be the culprit?
Also, it seems as though alot of people have problems with their Hummer, I mean alot. I'm thinking it would be wise to purchase an extended warranty. Any suggestions as to who might have a good deal?? I'm in the Navy and I travel around, and would need extended warranty that I could take it to most any mainstream/reputable business??
Please help, a Newbie about freak out!!! Thanks in advance!

RE: Clicking noise??
Welcome Woody and thanks you for your time and devotion to the Navy..( I was in an A6 Intruder squadron on the USS America)
Does sound to me like a CV joint or it could be brakes (pads worn)..No way of telling..Better have it checked out by a front end specialist.

CV Joint, I was thinking the same thing! I'm a shade tree mechanic and can do most jobs. Is this a tough one?? How much would you suspect for cost?? Would I have to have an alignment afterwards?? Thanks for the timely reply and for the kind words. 13 years down and only 7 more till retirement!

RE: Clicking noise??
i responded to your other post, but it could be the intermediate steering shaft. only took the dealer about an hour to replace mine, and your symptoms sound similar.
as for the extended warranty, mine has already paid for itself, i went with the GMPP option through the dealer.

just a not on replacing the CV joint, i had a new boot put on and it took the dealership about 3 hours. so unless you have the time, i'd have the steering shaft checked out first. no point in replacing something that isn't broken.

I think any CV joint job is a bit involved..But like I said, maybe a specialist can pin it down to something simple.

RE: Clicking noise??
How can you tell if the imtermediate steering shaft has gone bad?? Is this part realtively easy to replace? Any idea on the cost for the part? I am presently talking to a few places about getting the extended warranty. I think I will have to cough up the extra dough now, as opposed to later on! Thanks guys!
