Anyone use engine oil 5w-40 or 5w-50?

Anyone use engine oil 5w-40 or 5w-50?

Mechanic told that 5w-40 will be a little better for old engine with a 180 000 km. is that true?

hes assuming you bearings have some wear which at 180k they probly do, 5w40 wont hurt anything

STOPPPPPP dont use any oil other than the recommended by manufacturer .
I screwed a F150 with 150k for doing that due to a change in oil thickness

I would probably split the difference and go to 10w30

I would stick to recommend oil which is 5w30.

Stick with the 5w30 and add Lucas oil stabilizer. If using conventional oil. I only use it in the summer as it's pretty thick and not good for cold start ups. When the temp drops in the winter.
