Advise on buying a 2005 H2
Hello all, first of all I’d like to say hello to everyone as I am new to this forum. I am am looking at buying a 2005 H2 but this are the issues with this particular beauty: Pros: - Great overall conditions in and out - Brand new tires - Engine sounds and runs great - Shifting is smooth - No rattles Cons: - Instrument cluster not working properly . Odometer not working . Brakes, ABS and engine lights are on . Revs and speed are stuck 500 rpms and 30 mph - It takes about 5-6 seconds for the reverse gear to engage. - Possible leak in the air suspension - A/C doesn’t work properly (it might be just a gas issue) Warning messages: . Service Trac 4 wheels . Service air suspension . Change engine oil My mechanic performed some tests with a scanner and this is what he says: - Engine oil pressure too high (almost twice the pressure ??) - Actual mileage is 175.000 and not 108.000 as displayed in the odometer. Having said this... Owner wants $10.500 for the H2. Here in Panama there are only about 3 for sale for $15-20k. I am old enough now to afford this vehicle and to fill it up ;-) and this has been a dream of mine for the past 15 years! Price is non negotiable... A friend of mine in the US tells me that all the above described issue could be easily and inexpensivley resolved as they could all be related to the use of improper oil in the transmission and some bad ground wiring contacts. The mechanic here (not familiar with hummers) tells me to run away... What would you guys do? (Worst case scenario, I have a $2000 - $3000 budget for repairs). Thanks in advance for any help! |
Have you looked at the other H2’s in you area yet? With the firm $10500 and you repair budget, I would check the others out first? |

Thanks in advance for any help! air suspension can be converted to coil springs brake/abs/etc could be the ebcm which also needs refurbishing, would need more details on the actual codes A/c is not that difficult to fix The main flag that would worry me is why is the odometer so far off? In the US you'd have issues with titling it. |

Unfortunately, of the 3 H2’s available in the local market, this is the only one in great exterior/interior shape. Of the other 2, 1 is a SUT and the other one is pretty beat up and needs new tires... |

In the US you'd have issues with titling it. You are right about the odometer. I will run a VIN check to see what issues this H2 had in the US before being brought to Panama. So, do you think my repair budget could suffice given the the current symptoms? |

Sure looks nice! If most items are a easy fix, I would probably get it, especially knowing that nothing is avail in your area. |

I'd ask if they will take some money off to keep the giant wheels with rubber bands on them. If not I might offer to pay them some extra just to keep them. It will ride like total crap with those. That also gives me pause regarding the transmission. If those are considerably larger diameter with the tire than the stock wheels, they have been putting a huge strain on the transmission trying to make them turn. The transmission hesitating to get into reverse makes me worry even more. That can also account for the mileage discrepancy as well - if those were on it for a long time and the PCM was not calibrated for the larger tire size than both the speedometer was incorrect and the mileage will be recorded wrong.
