The door leaks are a weatherstripping issue. It doesn't leak much and in SoCal we get so little rain it really doesn't matter.

Also I personally never ripped my top due to overhanging branches and I have it alot of them but hey it could happen. but honestly the material on the OEM insulated softtop is very strong will take alot to tear....
I AM looking at a 2001 soft top,,,,will it be fine for the winters, I'm in toronto….will it leak or get cold? I was thinking maybe i get the hard top you were speaking of for the winters then go soft top summers? how hard are those to install and remove,,,and cost? do they leak or have any issues?

is i leave the top on in summers would it get hot or would ac hold up?

i wanted a wagon due to storage and i think its better for a sound system but the soft tops look pretty cool and i found a much better deal on a soft top

I haven't seen Injun post in years. I think the poster was referring to the hard top version of the H1. The military has a hard to shell that can be used on the H1 but it was not an option for the civilian trucks.

I've owned several open tops over the last 15 years. We also have tons of clients with open tops. Here is my opinion overall:
- 96-06 soft tops are WAY better than the older ones.
- Newer tops don't fit older trucks unless you change the windshield frame mount and corner pieces....but it's worth it.
- They do shrink over time. The first sign of this is at the rear window and it won't connect to the Velcro properly. This is when it needs to be replaced.
- Rubber Duck 4x4 sells new black or tan soft tops. The original manufacture went out of business and Rubber Duck had them reproduced domestically with a few quality upgrades and they are the only ones making these. Nice product!

I've had a soft top [with 2 tops] for 10 years, never had any leaks from the roof. 1997.5+ tops are the best design IMO.

To upgrade the older trucks, as mentioned you need the A-pillar mounts/channel/gasket + the H rails that run on the roll bars, new C-pillar channels, last time I priced it it was around $1600.00 in parts not counting the new top. Not sure if there was ever an official AMG upgrade/retrofit kit made or not.

Where are the HUMVEE-C guys securing their tops if the OEM is out of business? Rubber Duck?

Made me wish that I picked up one of those $500 tan new old stock tops when they used to be available.

I believe that the newer insulated tops were available for 97.5 and up trucks.
