Slight antifreeze smell when air system turns on
I have a 2001 HMC4, and when I start it up the antifreeze smell is the strongest and then the smell tapers off. I'm not loosing coolant, or haven't seen a change in the level yet.
I know it could be the heater core, I'm having it pressure tested Monday but are there any other things I could look into to see where it is coming from.
Thanks and have a great day
I love my Hummmmmerrrr! yeeee haw.

if you smell it in the car it will be a heater core. lucky that you have a newer vehicle and you can change just the heater core. make sure that who ever does it replaces all the a/c seals and heater core gaskets at the same time.

Coolant system pressure test
I had a pressure test after changing the oil. The coolant system did not lose any pressure and there were no leaks showing up.
Not sure where this smell is coming from. It seems worse when I start up and after a minute fades away.

and no noticable drips under the truck during or after you have driven it, no small pubbles or tell tell signs of them in the passenger front floorboard? I thought my 98 was leaking at the heater core. Turned out to be a pinhole leak in the radiator. had the radiator removed and fixed, no more leak. They had to test it three times to find the leak. I had a very small leak and it was only intermittent. If you can smell the anti-freeze inside the truck odds are it is the heater core. Time will tell.

Don't know where smell is coming from
I inspected a few more things but nothing. No coolant leaking, moisture, notta. I'm just going to use it and see what happens. Smell wasn't as strong today. Thanks for the replies.

New indication
here is the other thing that I have found. I was driving with my friend for about 15 minutes, engine was hot, and we got a coffee and I shut the truck off and after 5-8 minutes of sitting there was a small patch of fog on the windshield on the passenger side.
Still no change in coolant level.

coolant smell
I have a 98 H1. My radiator hose burst and coolant smell was always there until it burned off. I have no leaks and now when the truck hits 190-191 degrees, I can smell coolant sometimes. It seems stronger on the passenger side. There's no fog, no leaks, I can't figure it out. I'm going to check the drain plug today, great idea 955. I haven't done a pressure test yet, doing that this week. It's driving me nuts, I can't stand that smell.
