New to H1 just did some mods now have an issue with the ride HELP!
Hello everybody, i just finished modifying my H1. But run into some problems. It seems like the steering is connected to the wheels with the mile long stick. For the speed up to like 35 mph it's ok but at the higher speed after i turn the steering wheel it takes few seconds for the car to follow. Very mushy ride.
I would think it's a tires or the steering stabilizer ? Any thoughts and suggestions ? http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...pshburoeer.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psu9dp38mi.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4cnvcze2.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psmddcz633.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...pslmxrqtd4.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...pslir6177p.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psydw17n0e.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/...psvmq05sci.jpg |
I am speechless.

Nice ride! Normally I would suggest getting your H1 dirty, but that one looks good without dirt.
I'm assuming your power steering reservoir is full. The original steering gear leaks after a while, I need to replace mine. I'm guessing the belt is tight on the PS pump, not sure how to check pressure from the pump. Looking at the manual I see for loose steering: 1. Air in system. 2. Steering gear mounting loose. 3. Steering linkage joints worn. 4. Front wheel bearings incorrectly adjusted or worn. 5. Steering gear improperly adjusted. 6. Damaged or worn steering gear. |

I don't see why tires would be an issue. If it feels better on different surfaces or if you notice a big difference by inflating or deflating them. I think other factors would more likely be the culprit.
Have you driven another Hummer just to see if there is a difference? |
Sounds like a normal Hummer to me, lol. When I turn above 35mph, there is a slight delay in steering due to some body roll and my mushy 37" tires. I suggest driving another one to see if what you're experiencing is just normal characteristics, because what you describe feels like mine under normal conditions. But I think you're exaggerating a little when you say it takes a 'few seconds' for steering to respond. Mine is more like 600ms - 1sec for higher speed driving. Did you have these problems before the mods, or did you just get the truck?

Thank you everybody for your help. Was 2 small issues that corrected the issue. The alignment and incorrect tire pressure.
