How much quieter is a Duramax compared to a 6.5 Turbo Diesel?

On a scale of 1-10 I would say a 6.5 Turbo Diesel is 9! How would you rate the Duramax motor? I'm thinking of either doing a conversion or buying an Alpha. I love the H1, but its louder than I would like at times.

 

I'd say it is a little quieter, but not much. Most of the noise in the H1 is due to the lack of sound shielding. But before you think about doing a Duramax conversion, read the note at the bottom of this page.. it's good to keep in mind: Do It Yourself Cummins Conversion Kit

 

The Duramax is considerably quieter than the 6.5TD. If a 6.5 TD is a 10 on the scale for being the loudest a Duramax is a 3. That is standing outside the truck so tub insulation is not a factor. The Cummins is much louder than the 6.5TD.

 

Wow a 3? I've been hearing it is quieter for sure, I watched videos and it seems very quiet when driving. Sounds like its the direction I want to go. Thank you for the info. Looks like you owned a 6.5T previously so you definitely should know.
