Hummer H1The original Hummer, which brought the Hummer look to the public eye during Desert Storm, with the addition of some features that make the H1 more of a street vehicle and less of a Army truck
Hi all! First off great group here, I have been a member of many other forums, you guys (through my lurking as a non member) seem to be a cut above many others in many ways so thanks for that!
I just purchased from the original owner who brought her home from the factory in Indiana a 1996 H1 wagon with the TD. 32k miles and basically mint, not surprised as it is a lifetime garaged California example. So, needless to say, super stoked and loving the feeling of an adventure every time I crank that ignition switch and here those injectors going behind the stereo head unit
The heater core was bypassed and removed, I have had a difficult time finding a viable option through my research on line and here. Any way I can take a poll from my fellow newfound H1 brethren as to how I should approach this? AC is also not currently working perhaps needs recharge IDK I have not explored that yet. Either way I need heat and air.
-Full HVAC modernization system purchase and install?
-Try and find a core somewhere? (Seems none around)
I am also desperately seeking someone I can take this thing to for work, tune up, ball joints if needed, ECM add on, and of course the HVAC issue in Northern CA. I havent found any online or here as of yet
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks guys!
since being a california truck maybe they just decided to bypass the heater. you can pressurize the core with 14 psi of air and do a leak down test on it to see if it holds pressure over time if it does then it might just need a flush.
I recently purchased a hummer myself, the owner had also bypassed the heater core as it had gone bad, was also from California, driving it back to Texas was fun in places where it's 10 degrees. Anyways, I've checked Hummer Parts Guy, and they apparently do not make these heater cores anymore. It's been suggested to me to just replace the ac/heater entirely. You can get them from predator, but it's pretty expensive. As an alternative, I have found little heaters designed for cars that you can just plug into the 12v lighter/power outlets on amazon, so that might be better than nothing while you decide a more permanent fix.
Small side note, mine is the same color and also a wagon.
Thanks for the input Bronx, they pulled the core completely unfortunately! I have not recharged the system with Freon so I'm hoping this is why the AC is not blowing cold air....
Will, thats a great idea on the portables I will check them out! Might have to bite the bullet and do the whole upgrade thing yikes. Thats crazy on the 10 degrees lol.
Anyone around Sacramento or SF bay area know of anyone doing this kind of work or working on our h1s? thanks all!
Patrick
These parts are no longer available unless you find them on eBay or Craig's list. Without the heater core you will have no AC. You might call Mike Sabaresse at Tustin GMC in Tustin, CA. He is the best H1 mechanic around. If he doesn't know of an option for you it probably doesn't exist. I suspect you are looking at an aftermarket AC set up.

Right on thank you I think I am going to give him a call appreciate it and stay tuned!
Hello and congrats on your new Hummer! I ended up sending it down to Hummercore and have not needed to do anything to it since. Those guys are great down there I dealt with Don, very knowledgeable, attentive, and expedient. I was not able to to find anyone closer however did not look that hard as I was sending my rig in for a full re-do. Have you had any luck since? Enjoy your new ride!
