Yes i am sure you wont have an problems finding a good conditioned H1 for that amount. I actually wished I had that to spare right now I know where there is a like new hmmwv for sale for 38k i believe... but its all new... frame, engine, tranny, transfer case etc etc.... but then again it is a hmmwv so wont have the creature comforts of an H1

It may be possible to find one on EBay for that price but for $36K buyer beware. I just think you may be asking for more work and trouble than you are asking for at that price unless you know the truck and the owner. Even a well maintained low mileage '98 would probably go for $40K+. Or you could spring for a low mileage 2006 for about $135k. Good luck hunting!

Hey everyone,
I have about 36k to spend on a car and was going to get a tahoe when the crazy idea of finding a used hummer hit me. Anyone know if I can get a good condition H1 for that? Thanks

The thing you are going to have to remember is that you are going to need a "repair" budget as well. Just as an example, if the AC unit goes out... $2,500 to repair it. So if you have $36k to spend in addition to having extra cash lying around to use if the vehicle needs work. If not, adjust that to around $32K for the vehicle and keep the rest on hand for repair work. Just my 2 cents.
Good luck with the search!

I am with INDY on this one. Unless you are very good and can work on your own H1 I would not buy one. Especially if your going to make it your dailey driver. The repair costs are that of a ferarri. I have a friend who owns one. He used to drive it dailey. Until it got to the point where it cost about $500/Mo. In repair and Oil Changes etc.... He went a leased a new H2 and kept his H1. For $36K you can find a nice used H2 and pretty much go anywhere the H1 will go with a few exceptions.

36K for an H1 can be done but you need to be very careful. I bought a 97 wagon and put 10K in it real quick to bring it up to where it needed to be. ( tires, CTIS work, transfer case, gear box, fixing leaks, etc. ) They do require a fair amount of maintenance but once you have all of the deferred maintenance caught up the 97 has not been that bad. I bought a new H1 Alpha and it has been a great truck. I have 18K on it with no real issues to speak of. ( in or out of warranty ) Main thing is make sure the previous owner has keep up with the maintenance. I have looked at real nice trucks in the 40K range. Between Ebay and Autotrader there are trucks that sound ok listed in that price range and sales are a little slow right now so you might be able to get one of the 40K trucks in your price range. Good luck and keep us posted.
