I was out cruising out in the sand this week doing a little off road exerciser of the off road features. Having some great fun when I hit some really soft sand, I was moving along just fine but I thought I would engage T2 which was a mode that provided some limited slip that allows you to move though soft sand and snow more efficiently without as much wheel spin.
I used it a number of times in the snow with my 06. (see the picture of where it was in the 06)
Now the rub, where the hell did the button go on th e08/09? On the 06 it was right on the 4wd control, It's nowhere to be found on the 08's and 09. Did GM just shelve it when they started to run into money problem and leave it out of the 08/09 redesign? I looked thru the DIC mode options and didn't find it there, Hum, perhaps one of you other 08/09 owners knows where its hiding. lol
My guess would be that GM got too many complaints from "real" off-roaders that the T2 setting was cutting down their power/control. I don't know about others, but I want the option to reduce power myself, when needed, rather than have the truck decide, which invariably always seems to be at the wrong time. But, that's just me, YMMV.
I never drove an H2 in soft sand, but in all the H3s I have done so you want TC OFF and wheel spin is appreciated. Tire Air Pressure should be low (10-15 psi) while carrying a wee bit of momentum.
The T2 was very interesting, we all know how heavy the H2 is, in that sugar sand, you know the really fine stuff to keep moving through it you would be on the throttle and sand would fly up all over the place with the engine revving at the same time the H2 would continue to sink.
With the T2 mode en gauge instead of sinking because basically with the wheels spinning the H2 just seem to easily crawl and not sink. Obviously not something you would use all the time but I can remember I pulled my bass boat in Florida to some places most could not get to because they all always seemed to get stuck in the sugar sand(which I use to love pulling out the Jeep's and F150's), In all honestly it was really neat but that was really all it was good for and I am sure I could have done the same thing like Doc said just running the tires at a lower pressure.
It really would be interesting to fully understand mechanically what it was really doing and how it was accomplished?
