Default High Mileage or Standard Motor Oil??

Just throwing this thread out there to hopefully spark some discussion. Since many of these Hummers have more than 75-100K miles on the meter, what are your thoughts?

Is High Mileage Motor Oil worth the extra buck or two, or is it all just marketing?

I think using Full Synthetic is a nobrainer, but whether it is regular or high mileage......... not sure if it matters. Might be more important if well over 100K miles and there is some oil seepage, oil burning or exhaust smoke?

If your engine contains excessive sludge deposits due to less-than-adequate maintenance practices, Mobil 1 High Mileage synthetic motor oil can help reduce this sludge. For severe cases of engine sludge, short oil change intervals (3,000-5,000 miles) are recommended for the first two or three oil changes as the sludge reduction takes place. (In cases of engine damage that may have resulted from poor maintenance, even Mobil 1 motor oil cannot remedy years of neglect.)

Anyone that has relied on the OLM, or has used the incorrect oil, it's highly recommended to use high mileage motor oil.

Can We Trust Oil Life Monitors?

I read that Bob the oil guy thread a long while back. Interesting that the Mobil 1 HM is not Dexos approved.

I just threw this out there because I have to change the oil on the old 2003 Saturn Ion Kid Car, so a bought Valvoline Syn High Mile with MaxLife Technology 5W-30 Full Synthetic High Mileage and a Mobile 1 Filter. It has 155K miles, never burns or leaks oil.

I figure it ain't gonna hurt. Been running full synthetic through it the last 100K + , I will be draining out Mobil 1 tomorrow evening when I do the change before the snow storm hits.

My H3s were always treated to Mobil 1. Might swap to HM next change?

17+yrs on a 2700lb vehicle driving in our elements (salt acts as a corrosion agent, deteriorating metal). I'd be more concerned with the condition of the subframe!

Still solid. It's a classic collector car, they are not making them any more.

They run for ever.

I still use standard in mine but I only change it once a year since it's driven less than 1k miles a year. I have always used Mobil 1 in all my vehicles-standard as many of our GMs technically "require" it. I usually pair it with a Mobil 1 filter.
