Default !*!*! OBD scanners !*!*!

We all know owning a hummer it will start popping codes out one day or the other.
So far I’m lucky I guess as I’m new in the hummer game.
After looking for 2 years finding the right one I’m now the owner for 4 months now of a 2008 H2.
Its in a very excellent condition, has a lot of upgraded mechanical parts as new leather seats, seat belts etc etc…
Anyways, I never owned a diagnostic tool of anything for a vehicle other than a app on my phone which ain’t helpful in most cases.
So I’m looking for a helpful tool that will help me in the future to do a diagnostic if one day some lights will popup up that I never even seen before.
Doing the google machine I just are lost as many and asking for some info on what you guys using.

For references don’t want a heart like this on my dash….

GM Tech 2 (or chinese clone) IMO is hands down the best bi-directional scanner/diagnostic tool for the H2. It can be used on any GM vehicle up to 2013.

If you want something that can be used on more vehicles take a look at the Xtools D9, it does a good job on the H2 (though I still prefer the Tech 2)

Another option is the GM MDI-2, this will require you to use it with a laptop running GM MDI Manager, It actually can do more then the Tech2 but is a lot more complicated and can be a pain to get everything to talk.

VXDiag Nano with Tis2000, a couple of members on this forum swear by this tool, hopefully they will chime in, I know of it but have never invested in it or tried it but something that you may wish to consider.

Depends upon how in depth you need to get, these will darn near do it all. Autel MaxiCOM MK808S at about $450. If you want to ditch the cord, the MK808BT is Blue Tooth for about $55 more. You can find either for better deals if you shop around or grab a coupon.

There are other versions with less capability, lower priced, but still bi-directional. You won't need to update for any of the Hummers, but you can if new cars are in your future.

Thank you guys for the great info.
Will look into them all and I’m sure I can pick one.

Does the Autel do all the Hummer specific stuff like setting up and inflating and deflating the air ride?

I ask since it about the same price as the Tech II. Do you get more for your money?

which is easier for non-techies to use? I was just looking at buying the Tech II from China Car Diags, as I see that they are well-rated by forum members?

Got myself the Xtool newest model IP 608 with free lifetime updates.
Went to a O’Reilly close to my small town I live and the manager did own a H2 as well.
He showed me what he had and connected to my H2 and it all worked.
He even deleted my low tire pressure light as I have oversized tires on it and it ain’t has a tire sensor in it.
It wasn’t bothering me but it’s nice to have a cleaned up dash.
Not sure how long it will stay off as the module later will turn the light back on.
Maybe I can remove the fuse of it but that is a different subject.

Don't know about the Autel, perhaps DOC can elaborate a bit on it. Like I mentioned before when it comes to the H2 really nothing beats the Tech2 especially if you need to program a replacement part such as a DDM.
This is the tool the dealership used for every system in the Hummer, if you get one there's no guessing if it will do what you need on your H2, it will!. The Tech2 is very friendly and menu driven, about the most difficult thing you will find is knowing what subsystem it item you wish to work with is located. Programming requires the use of a laptop running TIS2000 and can be tricky.

One final comment, not all version of aftermarket tools have the same ability, for example my Xtools D9 will do a great deal more the lets say the D7. Since I don't have air suspension on my current H2 I cannot tell you for a fact it will do all the functions the Tech2 will. I am sure the same thing goes for Autel as well.

There are so many Tech2 scanners out there, does it matter which one?
Prices range from $200 to $500+
Found this one that I can throw in the H2 tool box in the back.https://www.obdii.shop/goods-148-Bes...c-Scanner.html

Yup, that will do it, order it with the GM software card, $327 and you have everything you need! Case, Candi module, assorted cables and TIS2000 software. It should do every you will ever want for your H2.

True its a Chinese clone but the genuine article hasn't been made in years, the original Genuine Tech2 would cost you well over 2k if you could even find one!

I do not have an H2 so I do not know for sure. I do know they control the Air Bag Suspensions on Ram Trucks so you can work on those.
