03 H2 Project - The Break In

Let me start with the story leading up to what the picture shows. The short version is this.
Parked at in a parking lot, came out to find hood up, door open, battery cut, and nothing left inside.

If you look closely you will see not only did they destroy the center plastic, but they borked up the center console as well.

What they took is alot, stereo, ham gear, cb gear, police scanner, iPod, they even walked off with an L7 subwoofer that was in a box in the back.

Police were called, reports were made, they even dusted for finger prints.

Off to the body shop it went to get a damage estimate

03 H2 Project - The Repair Estimate

After several days at the body shop, I finally got the estimate of repairs back.

Wait for it....

Damage to the vehicle $3500
Replacement electronics $3500
-->:eek::eek:<--

One of the big ticket items was the need to replace the entire center console.
I had my scanner and ham radio mounted in there under the arm rest. They forced the gear out of there with screwdrivers or some such and destroyed the lid and surrounding plastic.

So approximately $7000 dollars loss for what I would guess is $400 worth of street value gear. If that, because all of the serial numbers are now listed as stolen. Ham's tend to check those things so they couldnt easily sell the 2 ways or the scanner.

Hidly ho I'm off to get some replacement gear. Fortunately the insurance company is covering all of it.

03 H2 Project - New Gear

While the bodyshop is fiddling around with getting parts, color matching them, and installing them. I scoured the net and local shops for replacement gear.

I went a bit over budget but heres what I came up with so far.

Also picked up the XM radio module for the Pioneer and some fresh cables

I've decided to build a custom enclosure for a new sub, i'm still not sure if I want to do another solobaric or something else.

Good luck putting her back together. I have 5 pieces of interior for sale in the classified section of this forum. Looks like you might need them... https://www.hummerforums.com/forum/p...es-sale-24297/

Thanks Caraddict,

The body shop and insurance company have it covered. Just waiting for the last 2 parts to show up tomorrow and they will start painting them. I'm hoping to have it back Friday but I think its likely I wont see it until next Monday

Things like this are why I'm very careful about where I park, and have a compustar system that blows up my phone if anyone even as much as chirps my alarm.

I've ever got a camera watching the garage/driveway and I live in one of the nicest neighborhoods around. I figured if I were someone looking for a quick buck, I'm not going to case houses in my low income neighborhood.

It's just sad, I know a few ex thieves and the lengths they go to, astounded me. One guy would just hang out in the cities and wait for someone with a system to go bumping by, and follow them around until they made it home, and then come back some time later in the middle of the night and clean out their vehicle.

I agree with you Draketh that one should do whats reasonable and possible to protect whats theirs. But always remember that "Locks keep honest people honest"

A thief who has determination, patience, skill, and the proper tools can steal what he will and there is absolutely nothing you will be able to do to stop him or her.

Oh the up side, I've used this opportunity to upgrade several items. :)

Just visited the boys at True 2 Form in Gaithersburg MD where my truck is being worked on and they are hopeful I will have it back this Friday. Then we will start the hard part, re-installing, fabricating mounts, etc. After some careful inspection and consideration I think my best approach is to start from scratch battery to bumper with all wiring.

The biggest time consumer will be custom mounting of the scanner and 2 transceivers. I'm going to upgrade one of my transciever antennas to a permanent mount from magnetic while i'm at it.

More to come soon in 03 H2 Project - Back from broke

Let us know how the new install goes. Any photos of the transceivers installed yet?

Did you get it all taken care of?
