I know... my dealer is over 100 miles away.... so you figure $50+ in gas and $10 in tolls.... I knew you couldn't be far off from me...

Well think about it. You don't live all that far from me. I live right off of I-80 and I-55. I drive from there, to Merrilville Indiana, but when I drop it off, I am coming from downtown, so it's not AS bad. Still, you can imagine the distance I have to drive to get back home the times I do have to do it, not to mention I have to drive to work every single day because at any time they can tell me I have to pick it up, or pay another day's rental. But in the grand scheme of things, what can ya do? I just suck it up and deal with it. This forum is my way of dealing with the bitching part of it

Just for the heck of it... I'd figure up all of my trips, which the dealer has record of, from my house to the dealer and back and draft a formal letter to the lease agent, the dealer president /owner and CC to whoever will need to hear, that due to no part or fault of your own you have had to bring this vehilcle back to the dealer X amount of miles and you EXPECT to be credited for those miles. See what they say :-)

That's a great idea, but you know what they will say? "Why didn't you take it to the dealer that is 15 miles away and not the one that is 60 miles away?" And I'll say, "because it takes me 90 minutes to drive those 15 miles of rediculously congested traffic on the sidestreets and they have ONE service rep for the entire dealership and I have to pick it up before 6." They'll probably BS me and tell me that's no excuse. You see where it will all go from there

So, my friend is finding out how much it would cost for the cast-iron differential, and if it can be swapped out on my '06 H3 from the aluminum one. In theory, it can be done. Since they have to take it off the truck anyway, it may be worth getting it replaced. This may solve some of my problems and make me less-paranoid about taking it off-roading again. As soon as I found it I'll let you guys know.

When they announced the Alpha, one of the official videos talked about the iron diff being a clean swap with all H3s. It probably comes down to part availability and price at this point. Good luck!

Well, the cast-iron diff is almost $1800 just for the part, so that's not going to happen. I guess I'll just take my chances. So far, I've been ok, but if those bushings keep cracking, I won't take it off-road anymore. Three times is a little rediculous.

HummerMike IS the one taking care of my truck. He is the reason why they found the things I've been complaining about for a year. He had one of the expert techie GM travelling service guys (I don't remember what they are called) look at it (a different one then last time) and that's when he found all that crap wrong with it that the others didn't. Mike always takes care of me He works 10 to 12 hour days like me, but he doesnt' have time to come on here like I do. That's what makes AT&T hold times great for me The parts and labor is $1780 is what he told me. Actually he said that's what it would cost to put it in, so I'm assuming the part alone is pretty damn expensive. AND, he said that's assuming nothing special has to be done to my '06 to make it fit, but in THEORY, it should be a direct replacement.

Thank you. Now, parts and labor, got the labor part. Is that price a complete front Cast Iron diff. w/ gears, bearings the works, to repalce yours as a complete unit? Or, is that the price for the diff. carrier itself, and the labor to swap in your present gears, bearings etc.?? Ask HMike when you pick up your truck and please let us know. Thanks again brud.

I remember when the gears in my rear diff in the XJ blew up, it cost about 1100 but that was with a refurb carrier, so 1700 is probably in the right ballpark. It's definitely not cheap, but if you're going through the expense I'm sure it's not that much of a cost difference between the aluminum vs. iron. Thanks for the update.

I find it hard to understand how the Transmission has anything to do with a bush failing on the Diff and Steering box? If you like to do lots of 4 wheeling than the chance of component failure is higher than normal, but maybe there is other factors involved as well. HG have you done any mods to the suspension? Do you have pics of the offending bushes...
