Reminds me of an interview (think it was on Auto Week) a few years ago with a Subaru engineer.  He was asked if the scoop on the hood of the vehicle they were reviewing was functional (interviewer obviously knew it wasn't).  The engineer replies "Yes, it's is fully functional...... its function is to sit there on top of the hood and look cool."
