your brakes shouldn't even come into question if your running trailer brakes....which you should if running over a 3000 pound trailer. My boat with gear weighs in at around 4600lbs. Take it out of overdrive and it won't be downshifting at all....I never have it drop out of third when going up hill....not once. I have taken the boat to North Carolina twice and to Florida once to fish tornies and never had a problem...my tranny temp gauge never got close to dangerously hot. Granted the I5 isn't the ideal towing rig...but the torque numbers are close to a small v8 and that's what you need for towing. Plus there is no rear end squat at allwhen you hook the trailer up...my tahoe and even my dually had some rear und squat...the h3 sinks an inch at most...very impressive. If you feel worried, just install a tranny cooler and a tranny temp gauge and you'll have peace of mind. gorilla....yes the h3 has a stock tow rating of 4500 lbs.
