I have read a lot about how heavy the H3 is, something I like. How much heavier is it compared to other SUVs and more importantly where is this weight?

5850 is the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. 4700 is the curb weight. Curb weight for the following: Toyota 4Runner = 4065 Ford Explorer = 4500 Chevy Trailblazer = 4520 Note the H3 is only 200 hundred pounds heavier than Explorer or Trailblazer. I suspect the weight difference is in the frame, drive train, and suspension. But I also heard the H3 uses thicker body panels than a standard brand SUV. This was true of the H2.

Tex; your curb weight is the correct number from GM, but I do not buy it. What weighs 4700#? Yes, the I5 is listed at that weight, but is that dry, Base, Lux, Adventure???? It cannot be including any accessories because I weighed my Adventure so I know what mine weighs. More on this from a post I put up in the Alpha v I5 thread a ways back: "The press releases want you to believe (ya right???) that the Alpha is a mere 151 lbs heavier than the I5 H3. Supposedly 100 #s attributable to the engine and appx. 50# attributable to the iron front differential????? The Alpha is listed as 4851 lbs. The I5 H3 4700 lbs. I don't have an Alpha and don't know what it really weighs? I do know what my H3 Adventure weighs with a little more than half a tank of fuel, front GM splash guards, factory trailer hitch, stock wheels w/ 33s and my regular stuff in it (fire extingusher, flash light, some CDs, a rag, rear cargo mat, and Husky liners front and rear, etc...) 4,840#s. I got no brush guard, no nerf bars or rock rails, no roof rack or rails, no under belly protection pkg., nothin.....? How are they arriving at the official GM curb weight??????? Bone dry, and emtpy? B.S. " If anybody else scaled their 3, please post your actual weight here. I find this interesting.

"Curb weight" by definition is standard equipment (a manual tranny weighs a lot less than an auto) with all fluids. I have a scale at work I can check with in the next few days. I have a base model with no options so it should be what GM claims. Right now it has a #100 + tube bender in the back, so I need to take that out to be fair.
