Ok, I can agree with that, most car salesmen are, but is he full of sh!t or what? Was he just trying to sell me something more expensive by telling me lie's about the H3? Help!

Do you think the salesman was for real? I don't think he knows enough to sale cars, forget Hummers. The chassis is different for starters... Thumbnail Image

This guy was dead serious, when I expressed my disbelief he said just look at the door tag on both the Colorado and the H3, he said that I would see they are both made at Shreveport Louisana and stated the H1 or H2 which is built in the AM General Plant. Since they had no Colorado's on the lot I could not verify this but he probably already knew that.

He probably gets a higher commission selling the H2 than the H3.

He's right about where their built - Shreveport. Some parts are shared with other vehicles - just like with H2 and all other manufacturers. I agree with 671H3, H2 sales' commission vs H3. He wasn't wearing a leisure suit was he? There are folks on this forum that work at the plant, I'm sure they could expand more on this topic.

I guess the commision on 35k vs 60k might make a difference of some bucks to the salesman, but when they start slinging crap and lies trying to talk down what I was interested in and try to sell me something more expensive turns me completely off. Other than the fact about the place of manufacture it sounds like the saleman is full of it. While I do enjoy my H2 my wife preferred the smaller footprint and lean look of the H3. Considering the H3's has better fuel economy, is easier to park and less expensive to buy and own I thought this would be a good choice. I really don't want another H2, besides that no off roading is required to go to the local grocery store or mall.

I don't work in LA. However, I sure nuf can tell ya that salesman is full of bull deficant!!!!!! Its GMT345 platform is based on the GMT355 which is used by the Colorade/Canyon. Have you never heard the ole: "the H2 ain't nothin but a Tahoe/Yukon"? The H2 shares the the GMT 820 platform. So freekin what it is significantly different and built in a different plant. An H2 is no more a Tahoe than an H3 is a Colorado! They share sections of frames and so do a crap load of other vehicles built by a multitude of mfgrs. Ask Mr, salses schmuck what plant the H2s are assembled at. Bet he is clueless! You are a mark for another H2. Test drive the 3 and base your decision accordinly.

I have an 07 H3x and love it but i wondered the same thing. If you look at Am Generals web site they only have the H1 and H2 listed as civilian Hummers. Whats the real deal?

In the original deal with AM General, GM obtained the rights to market and sell the Hummer brand including the H1 (commercial version of the HMMWV) and the new H2. AM General would "collaborate" in the design and build the new H2 for GM. In return, GM built them the new H2 plant next to AM General's existing facility at that time. So, AM General builds the H2 under contract in a GM plant with GM processes, robotic equipment, and procedures. In fact they recently extended the agreement to continue building the H2 for GM -- the current agreement, which runs until 2009, was extended seven years until 2016. Now, the fact that GM decided to build the H3 at a GM plant in Louisiana doesn't seem to me to make it any less a GM Hummer than the H2 -- unless you ascribe some superiority to factory workers in South Bend.

Your salesman is soooooooo full of it. I owned a Chevy Colorado Z-71 4 x 4, and sold it to get my 07 H-3 Adventure. Yes, they share some components, but the ride and handling both on and off road are night and day differences. Now, I am not bad mouthing the Colorado, I liked it, and one of the reasons I bought the Hummer was that the Chevy ran so well, and was so dependable, and I knew that the H-3 shared components. But the interior, styling, features, Monsoon, all wheel drive, suspension, etc., and the handling of the H-3 is just so much better! So what if they are made in the same plant as Chevys! As someone else pointed out, the H-2s and Tahoes also share some components, so how does your salesman feel about that? If you buy the H-3 you will love it!
