Hey all.. Just picked up my 05 H2 last week and love it. Quick question though.

What do you guys average on your MPG? Im getting around 9.8 according the the Info center. I also have 25" Rims on there which may be affecting that.

Someone was telling me there are in-expensive mods that can be done to increase the MPG. Is that true?

Thanks for the info..
Chris

Hi Chris,

i tend to be a skeptic about mileage mods, i entered some thoughts on this somewhere 'round here this evening. I wish mileage mods that would really work existed, but ... well, but i'm a skeptic.

to improve mileage, perhaps a couple of simple things could help

First, you don't have a race car, so take it a bit easier on the throttle. Hummers look GOOD rumbling by.

Second, you have 6400 pounds of machine - which means you can coast for a very long time to a stop. Just stopping with light braking only (mostly coast down) can probably bump mileage up a couple MPG.

good luck. :)

your rims don't have anything to do with mileage, unless you're riding on them. if your tires are the same size as stock (~35"), that's what counts. if they're smaller or larger, you're getting an inaccurate mileage reading. mileage concerns on an H2 only lead to disaster. best to forget about mileage and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for everyones info. The tires that came with are Pirelli 315/40/VR25's. Please see attached pic. Will those affect the accurary ont he MPG reading, if so, would it make it over estimate or under estimate? As for the MPG, not really a big concern, I knew what i was getting into when I bought this truck. I love the truck eitherway. Just want to make it the most fuel efficient as possible!

Thanks again everyone

This is what I thought too, but I've heard from several people that it does matter. I dont know why(weight, unsprung weight, wider tires) but they say that sometimes a different wheel setup can make a big difference in mpg.

If they are significantly heavier or lighter, or the tires you put on them are wider or a different height, then that will affect your MPG. I think you will find a minimal difference, if not unmeasurable outside of lab conditions, from just the wheels alone.

Nice rims, and Strut Grill

I put on a Magnaflow Exhaust and Volant Cold Air Intake last year. I specifically did it for the AWESOME rumbling sound they make, though, SUPPOSEDLY they would give you an extra 1-3 MPG. I found it the OPPOSITE because my rig became so much more responsive that I started getting LESS MPG, because I was ENJOYING it WAAY TOO MUCH

I went from 11.4 down to 10.1

Though this summer after I put on my 24" Dubs and Pirelli Scorpions, I'm back up to 11.8

Look at it this way, It's a HUMMER!!! What kind of mileage could you expect
