Hi guys. Just wanted to know if anyone has replaced their steering shaft with the redesigned one for GM? And also if you could let me know the part number for it.
i faced the issue of clanking noice from the steering wheel, got it replaced and still the problem persists. My dealer insists on the fact that the replaced shaft is the new one but i dont believe him as the problem is not fixed.

Thanks.

Man, I've been entertaining the idea of finally making my H3 purchase this fall, but all of this "rattling" stuff I've been reading and hearing about has me "rattled".  Any legitimate suggestions other than "deal with it" or "have the part(s) replaced"?

I suggest you buy the 2008 H3 which I believe is out already.

Is this occurring on all H3's?  Understand that many of you experienced this rattle, but are there more who havent experienced the unfortunate?

I went to the dealer 5 times in total with this issue. During these visits they replaced the upper intermediate shaft twice. On the fifth visit, I informed the Hummer National Office of my problems. They were VERY helpful. A regional service rep was sent in and they then replaced the lower intermediate shaft. It seemed like everything was all better. But now, a few months later, if in reverse with the wheels angled, or, if coming to an abrupt stop, the dreaded clinking of metal in the column is back. I love my H3. I hate that damn noise. Why is it so hard to get this right?

When I get time, before going back to the dealer, I'm calling the national office first. Hopefully this will be the last time. If not, it might be time for the ole lemon law to throw its weight around...

Look at these posts and note that the redesigned part first became available about 3 weeks ago  http://www.hummerforums.com/m_84017/tm.htm and http://www.hummerforums.com/m_83353/tm.htm

In all likelyhood what you had done was the "old" temporary hail Mary fix.  They replaced your problem shaft(s) with new original design shafts (yes, the defective part) in hopes that your problem would go away until the new redesigned shaft was available, which is now.
The new part # is 25900714 - Shaft - Lower Steering
GM Bulletin #07-02-45-006

Have them do it again.

Sewell Hummer of Dallas. I must admit they have been friendly throughout the entire process (the problems started at 1200 miles and now continue through 13000 miles). Byron and Jay are great. But I'm starting to get fairly annoyed with this about to be my 6th documented visit for this issue.

My Hummer Dealer here in Guam just installed the new replacement lower steering shaft on my H3 yesterday. I drove it around today and didn't hear or feel any rattle or clonking.

I like the service at Sewell as well, but I can see why you would be getting annoyed (understatement, I'm sure)......
Seems like the last time I was in there, I heard a number (68 I think) of trucks were on the list and awaiting replacement parts.
Don't quote me on that...

Thank goodness it's not a safety issue.

When you go back in.....Make e'm give you that ALPHA loaner....It is SWEET ! ! ! ! !
