I've been trying to see just how long it takes to get it to come on...It came on last night...6550 miles after my last oil change....soooooo I wouldn't rely on it too much to tell you when to change your oil.

Isn't that what the manual says to change it at.  I know on my H2, when I hit around 3000 miles it is still on 65%.

I guess It all depends on short trips, temp, and rpm.

According to my service manager, it comes on based on oil temp and crankshaft revolutions, not miles. Theoretically, you could drive like a long haul truck driver and it would come on after more miles driven than if you spent the entire time in city rush hour traffic.

hmmm...thats intersesting. . Whatever the determing factor is in triggering the message, 6000+ miles on dino-oil is too long for my liking.

We change oil too much in the US anyways....  read some of the shear reports on oil and the GM Oil Life system is still pretty damn conservative, IMHO.

I've seen reports on Synthetics that are still in orginal viscosity condition after 30k miles.

I second that.

I change mine every 5000 miles using synthetic oil.
