Torsion Bars

TigerLily -> Torsion Bars (7/31/2007 6:44:59 PM)

Hi Guys~

Got a question ... Getting ready to get new tires and I want the Toyo M/T's again ... cause, that's how I roll! [8D] I'm affraid I won't fit into the garage with the new tires because without the wear it's going to raise the truck at least .75". I'm only worried about the rear clearance, front is no problem. My question is: if I had the torsion bars turned on the back to lower it so that clearance wouldn't be an issue, how many turns would it take? Would this even work?

And what do y'all think about M/T's verses A/T's?

Thanks!! [;)]

and by the way: my wheels are 22" the tires are 37 x 13.5

There are no bars on the back. Just coils.

Is it the door or the frame of the garage that will hit.  Some doors you can adjust.

It's hitting the garage door but with new tires, we think it may hit the frame as well. It almost hits the garage door now and these tires hardly have any tread left.

Also, its the roof rack that is hitting...not the actual vehicle.

Btw...has anyone had any experience with the A/T versus the M/T's? We don't go off road but we do like the way the M/T's look better. But I like the price of the A/T's better. [:D][:D][:D]

You should be able to adjust the door to open a little more.  whatever you do, you can't remove the roof racks. Thats just bad mojo.

No doubt, we never really even thought about removing the roof racks. I would pay to raise the garage before I did that. [:D][:@][:D]

I am still afraid with the new tires that it will hit the frame. It is literally under and inch from hitting now and we calculated (that sounded smart, didn't it?) that there is about 3/4" in the difference betwen the height of the tread now versus the new tires with new thread. But even when we figured that, it wasn't an exact science....but should be close. I would hate to buy the M/T's and start to drive in the garage and realize it won't fit. It wouldn't be a pretty site, the neighbors may call the police. :)

I agree that the MT's look better, but I wouldn't recommend them if you're predominately on road.

Can something be done to the coils to lower the back about .75"?

I WANT M/T'S!! [:(][:(][:(][:(]

blackstangs281 -> RE: Torsion Bars (8/1/2007 1:18:16 PM)

Yes and No.  Yes there a few ways (torch a coil off, squash a couple together)........But NO, DON'T DO IT. It's unsafe and the ride would suck.

I recomend going to lowes or home depot and getting about 700 to 800lb of concrete block and put it in the bed.  That will bring her down an inch or so[:D]

TigerLily -> RE: Torsion Bars (8/3/2007 3:28:30 PM)

Had the new tires put on today and it FITS into the garage, it's as tight as a ... (insert whatever tight joke you prefer)!! WOOT!! And I went with the M/T's, cause that's what I wanted. It doesn't matter to me that they don't get as much wear, the ride's not quite as good, or there more expensive. I work to get what I want ... not what's practical! [;)]
