ORIGINAL: importkiller me thinks your loaner cts was beat to chit by previous drivers....much like I did to mine I drove that lil SOB like I stole it....BTW..it takes turnpike off ramps at 70 rather nicely...but gets real loose in the gravel Did YOU have my loaner before they gave it to me??! OK I won't argue your point LOL. And yes, you are correct about the cost - the Lex was nearly twice the price, so there is NO comparison. I guess I just expected more from the CTS. But that all aside it's just IMO this car doesn't fit my lifestyle I guess. When I literally have to duck my head to get in and out of it and my head is nearly up into the visor. Maybe I am just to used to the roomy feel of a larger vehicle.

That would be the LS460 I do believe...SAWEET! AND mucho dinero! Ours is the LS430 one step down which was a $60K vehicle. (We would have never paid that kind of $ for one - but had the very sad occasion of inheriting it last year.)

OH! And one last thing...These 2 CTS's that I've had drink the gas like crazy! I kid you not - I got better gas mileage in the DTS's Ive had for loaners and it doesn't do much better than my H3! Makes no sense to me!

All I have to say is, if the CTS is as smooth and quiet as it is, the Lexus would probably put me to sleep. I have never driven a Lexus so I can't compare. OK, so how about this: How is the H3 for you compared to the CTS as far as quietness and smoothness? For us, the CTS engine and road noise was almost non-existant compared to the H3. I'm just asking because I'm curious and the CTS was going to be our next car. I guess it's just hard to believe a car can be silent inside but it sounds like that's what the Lexus is.

Mikey, I guess it is all just a matter of preference - and obviously you & Impy both like the CTS. Perhaps it is not fair for me to base my conclusions totally on one (2) that is a loaner since Impy has informed me that he beats the hell out of his loaners (probably most other people do too!) I must just not be the "norm." As I treat most everything I have with care (maybe comes from not having much growing up.) But again for me, apparently I expected too much out of the CTS being a cadillac. I associate caddy with "luxury." Again, also the Lex we have was twice the price...I would/should expect much more of it. As for putting you asleep...when you get to be older - you will understand the desire for a smooth, luxury feel ride LOL Of course this is not always my desire and "for a walk on the wild side," - we have the SUV, and the sportscar as well. But, when I want comfort and room..I want just that! You are asking me to explain something that you boys would know far more about as to the "whys." I would assume it would be attributed to more insulation, better shocks and suspension, etc etc etc?? Now however, explain the gas mileage factor to me. Why do both the CTS's I have had get the crappiest gas mi? I swear to God it is not any better than my H3! I have had the latest CTS since Thursday and put $40.00 worth of gas in it and driven it approximately 120 miles - do the math! (I can put $65 worth in the H3 and go approximately 350 miles on a tank.) What's up with that?

REALLY? I got about 350 to 375 miles to one tank. I used the "Instant MPG" feature on the display and consistantly got 17 to 20 on the street, and 25 to 30 on the highway. That's REALLY odd. I'm not trying to cause trouble, but asking because If I'm going to spend alot of money like that for something that is going to be a 2nd car for us, I really don't want to if there is something else better out there that perhaps I can get used for the same price that has better feel to it. I do appreciate a smooth ride but we are still young and like that sporty aspect, especially the auto-stick shifting. We like that it's low to the ground and feels like a sports-car, but since I don't know any better and have never been in a Lexus, all the info I can acquire is worth asking about. I may even be inclined to go test-drive a new one if it's that much better. It's just a matter of personal standards of comfort. Your standards are obviously higher because you have been in better automobiles, where-as I haven't so I have nothing to compare it to I don't know about Mike though I'm assuming he's been in better cars. That mileage just does not make sense. The 2 '06 CTSs and the 1 '07 I have had all got great mileage. That is actually one of the reasons we are considering it. It's hard to find a performance sedan that gets that kind of mileage that we were getting.

Yes, it is VERY ODD! I was so disappointed in the gas mi that I even remarked "what's the point of having a smaller economical car if the gas mi. isn't any better?" I know you think I am exaggerating but I swear I am not! Perhaps these 2 CTS's are in dire need of some repair/tuneups? We had honestly considered selling the vette AND the Lexus in the future (due to the fact that we have too many vehicles now and wanting a new car) and purchasing an upgraded CTS also so we could have an economical as well as sportscar feel. My original posts were only to state - before you buy - consider carefully. I am also not trying to promote one make over another (our family has driven caddys for many many years). We are just sorely disappointed in the CTS's we have had opportunity to have thus far. My rec to you would be to drive a Lexus IS which is very sporty as well (maybe preowned if the price tag is a bit much for you) or other makes out there first. Then make an educated decision. If it is the CTS..then you will at least be sure (and happy).

Mileage was only a small contributing factor to my dislike for the CTS. Heck if it was most important, I wouldn't be driving a Hummer! I'd be driving a freakin Prius!

ORIGINAL: importkiller mileage is all relative to be honest....I get 9 mpg in the hummer and I got 16 in the cts....but thats due to the way I drive. I also get 5-7 mog in my Dodge Ram....so the caddy felt like a hybrid to me So, you FINALLY admit it lol. Sarah: I never thought for a second you were exaggerating. I LOVE the IS, but don't know if I could ever find a used one that's affordable for us. Keep in mind, if the car was always used as a dealer loaner, then most likely like Mike said, it was beat to hell, and never got broken in properly. That computer probably is running that engine like a sports-car on crack, so it has no idea what the norm is. Again, I'm just bringing all this up because I don't want to get stuck with a POS that turns into that later on down the line. The last one we had, the '07, only had 1750 miles on it and it drove like a dream (ok is that a female term, because I'm not gay, or anything......... )

I'm not so sure a "CERTIFIED preowned" Lex IS would be all that different pricewise than a new CTS...again it's all in one's prefs. OH GOODY GUMDROPS (now thats gay and no I am not homophobic on slight chance we have any here LOL!) they just called and my Hummer is ready and they swear rattle noise free this time (I'd hope so after trip #5 there for repair) so I am off to pick up my gal and get rid of this freaking loud, roughriding, too small, gas guzzlin CTS! CIAO darlins and for me!
