Off-topic, but a Hummer in France? You either work for Total S.A. or literally have Euros to burn up in that gas tank. I was pissed when I filled up the other day from completely empty for the first time and it was damn near $60. My Porsche and Nissan only ever took about $45 and that was premium gas!

It must be right around $145 US (106 Euro) for you to fill that puppy up!

All I have to say to that is SAINT MERDE!

Remember Jeff that the H3 has a much larger gas tank.

You're absolutely right, but I would get the same range out of those cars driving like an A$$ than I do grandma-ing around in the H3 (with a manual no less), about 330-350 miles to a tank. The difference between 23 mpg on Premium (@ $3.07) and 16 mpg on Regular (@ $2.85) driving around 1,350 miles per month works out to be $60 more for the H3 per month in fuel costs. 22 cents at the pump sounds like a lot, but 16 mpg is waaay more painful to the wallet.

This is my first SUV and I'm still shell-shocked. No wonder GM extended the 0%/60 months deal until SEPTEMBER! Every time I pass an H2 I just cringe at the thought of 10 mpg

Jeff

Jeff,
Didn't you do your homework before buying the H3?

I personally feel a lot better driving around in a unique Hummer than some imported POS.   I'm still enjoying my '07 H3

Hey Killer,
What do you think of Honda's "Element"?  Is that an SUV or something else?  Toyota now has a Hummer/LandRover look a like!!

Jeff,

Ouch!

Yeah, I did my math ahead of time but the reality is more painful than I thought. I was assuming that I could get around 18 mpg since with my other cars I regularly could beat the EPA estimates (pre-2008 figures too) by driving conservatively. I only have 2900 miles on my H3 but I'm still averaging 16 combined city/hwy. That drop of 2 mpg is an additional $26.72 a month at 1,350 miles/month or a whopping 79.6% more than my targeted figure.

I've got other hobbies besides my cars and the extra $60 a month its costing me to drive it eats into my other play-time budgets. I'm just whining out loud so I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the snappy replies. I do love my H3 and even had a blast doing a bit of off-roading this weekend, which reinforced why I bought it in the first place.

Importkiller's dad was a wise man - you do indeed have to pay to play.

Now for my own snappy reply - Imports beat American cars a$$es all day long - Americans agree, the numbers don't lie. They wouldn't have lost so much market share if they weren't caught up in group think and coming out with such sub-standard products (features, design, quality - just about every aspect of the car business). Vader's thread about "What would you have GM change" and the replies it garnered attests to all the simple things that GM isn't doing that foreign competitors are at the same or lower prices. This is the first American car I've bought in 10 years. It is much improved over the last one I had, but compared to the foreign competition across the spectrum of automotive choices, American car companies have a LONG way to go to compete on anything other than 0%/60 month financing PLUS incentives (read: dropping their pants to sell cars and trucks).  The fact that GM STILL hasn't canned Rick Wagoner and Ford let Bill Ford lead them to the brink of disaster is evidence enough that they aren't going to move forward anytime soon. Chrysler is even rumored to possibly be chopped up and sold off into oblivion by its new American slice-n-dice private equity group. Nice.

It's sad how far the American auto industry has fallen since Harley Earl was truly innovating and setting design standards for the rest of the world.
